How are you a CD with no management exp?

like

Gotcha. I’m in a similar boat. I am more than qualified to be a CD - but to be honest I’d rather NOT manage people and I’d rather NOT have to worry about interacting with the client, presenting etc. I just want to make stuff. So in my case it’s somewhat voluntary so I’m like the most seniorest AD but never a CD.

I’ve done the ACD thing a few times though. I get pretty much all I want and not what I don’t.
Also I’ve been freelancing for over a decade now - so it’s rare that I work with a team long enough to develop that type of CD relationship...

I have the same issue. I see ACD or CD jobs I'm qualified for experience-wise or creatively, but since I've freelanced for so long, I can't say I've had direct reports. I say I've managed teams of people to produce my ideas (true) but it sounds lame to me. Friends have told me, lie. Interested in hearing how others would spin this.

After freelancing for 7 years I’m considering going back to FT. I don’t have a whole lot of management experience. What role would you apply for?

like

I have managed teams a few times on freelance projects but not consistently.

I was in this boat. Freelanced for years and hadn’t managed people. I ended up taking a CD position on a bad account. Had an experienced partner, which helped me know what to do. I was good at the concept part and really learned how to manage. Over time I got better accounts and ended up really enjoying the managing people part and making their ideas better. Never did love the client or office politics though. I learned to manage them the best I could though. Anyway, what I’m saying is...I if you have the chance to work in a lower profile account with an experienced partner, would recco getting your feet wet. Also, don’t be afraid of ACD. That’s a more forgiving/learning position.

Same boat. Tons of campaign work, but low on operational experience.

Average salary for a Sr Copywriter in DC?

I’m going to do a small consulting project on the side for a small start up company. My current salary is $150k, so ~$83/hr. I think a $100/hr rate for this project is fair, but my spouse thinks it’s low. Also worth noting: it’s beyond my typical scope of knowledge since it’s a full marketing strategy vs just my current specialty. Thoughts?

Friendly reminder folks- don’t work for Havas Health and You. They cut the freelancers hourly rates, again and made it so there’s no OT. The resource manager at HOV said if I couldn’t swing $80 an hour as an HCP copywriter, she’d have to find someone else. Good luck 👍🏻

I’ve been a freelance print production designer for many years, and usually on-site in the before times. Now I work remote, and am finding it uneasy dealing with billing. Before I always billed hourly, which made sense, but it’s becoming an issue now. Some companies don’t have a full days’ work, so it seems wrong to bill full days, and it allows me to juggle projects for different companies, but my billable hours are down. I know I should bill a daily rate, but not sure that will fly. Thoughts?

Considering a contract to perm. Would be contract for 6 months. First time freelancing. 6 years experience. Job in NYC at a global brand. Would $130k be right to account for benefits? Less? More?
