Considering an exit to a startup that just completed a solid series B. They’re willing to provide competitive comp package and surprised how large the base is for a startup. Has me concerned about being on the high end and being the first person that comes to mind when it’s time to pinch a few pennies or clean up the books ahead of future rounds/IPO. Valid concern or am I overthinking it?

I am an aspiring entrepreneur and want to start a business in future for sure. I have a few ideas but nothing concrete, or close to being a start up yet. I work in tech, but a generalist - have done sales, delivery operations etc. trying to get experience in as many areas as possible before I go on my own. I dnt know where to start the journey. Are their any books or other material I can read/reference to think and plan about my entrepreneurship journey. I m in mid 40s based in t2 city US east.

My background is in tech transactional. I joined a cybersecurity SaaS startup at the end of last year and now also handle more generalist matters in addition to all things commercial-related. I have a number of books on contracts that I’ve found super helpful over the years (The Tech Contracts Handbook, A Manual of Style for Contract Drafting, Sign Here, etc.). As a new product manager what books should I be reading? I’ve already read Inspired but looking or more. For context, I’ve joined a series A start up and as expected there’s a lot to do and it’s very fluid. I want to be able to help the head of product as much as possible as well as provide some structure to how we work.

For context, I’m a freelance Social Media Manager/Strategist and I came into Ad world via Startups. Throwing myself into learning on the job with more Strategy gigs - but I still don’t feel like I quite know the lingo or best practices or theories.

I'm looking for recommendations for two areas: 1) in general laying the groundwork in a startup to have the tools and especially processes in place to scale, and 2) tactical focus on building a SaaS project. I've been promoted into a management role from Dev roots, so need to learn more PM processes to be an effective manager in day job, plus would like to start building my own SaaS solution.

Any suggestions (or books or articles) around taking startups from smaller (50-100) to the 300-500 range? Would love to read more about challenges that usually come up at this stage and how people navigate them. I just joined a series C and want to be prepared to navigate things.

Ive gained so much weight since quarantine started and feeling a bit hopeless. I’ve battled my weight for as long as I can remember but this is the most unhealthy I’ve ever felt. Trying to work directly with agencies as a freelancer. What are some best practices to reach out and avoid 3rd party recruiters for contract work?

So I’ve finally finished my consulting website for my “side hustle.” Here’s the issue: I have a full time job doing the same thing I’ll be doing as a consultant (strategy.) In the guidebook I signed at my full-time company, the only note re: consulting is that you cannot work for competitors of agency clients. Of course I won’t be doing that and will be stringent about who my clients are, but how do I advertise my new consulting LLC without concerning my employer, particularly on LinkedIn?

I’m not convinced that contracting on 1099 is better than W2, since you pay 15% extra self employment tax.

If you have one 1099 gig you can claim all your expenses for the year against that and then go W2 for the rest. Am I missing something?
