Rising Star

After months of back pain from sitting on an unsupportive chair, I’m thinking of getting a used Herman Miller Aeron chair, since the one I had in my last office was comfortable. There are many on Facebook marketplace in the $4-500 range. Do I have to worry that they’re fake, or is there a way to check that they’re authentic? Does anyone know of a better source?

I don’t think there are many fake Herman Miller chairs. Knock offs - sure. I think you could get it for $200 ish. My Aeron hurts my thighs. I got a steel case leap v2 that I like quite a bit. Kind of with I got a gesture. I really with I got a stressless, but I want to feed my kids too.

So I did this a month ago, purchased off FB private marketplace for Columbia alumnis. Anyway, here's some guideline from my research and purchase:

1. You can google search how to look for serial number at the bottom of the aeron chair. But on mine, it was so hard to see... I think if you can feel it there, it is good enough.

2. Online, it says Aeron rarely has fakes. The thing is hard to fake... the mesh seat is patented and unlike software, faking hardware requires you to fake an entire distribution line.

3. Back to the mesh seat: it relieves tension on your butt, which makes the aeron special. I mean, as long as it doesn't break, it's likely original. The other thing is, if you're like me, you have sat on it in office, you would know if something looks off.

4. I should have done more research here, but there is the classic type and remodeled. Overall remodeled is better, but classic is just as good except adjusting the arm rest and tilt is quite a pain. You could probably get a bit of a discount for the classic model.

This is a random and probably unhelpful note, but cupping has helped my lower back pain So much. About as much as if I was really working out/active for several days in a row to counteract my chair hours.
Literally just a $13 pack of rubber cups from Amazon and some massage oil and my lower back/shoulders are So Happy. I've never heard someone mention it online so I had to share

Thanks, I’ll look into that. I got some exercises to do from a physical therapist, but sitting in a better chair has helped in the past.

Really only have to worry about repros with eames designs and the like. If an office chair says Herman Miller, that’s what it is.

check out craigslist for office liquidation sales! design within reach also has refurbs on their ebay page but they're pretty expensive. also make sure you're getting the right size.

I got a purple double seat cushion and it’s been a life saver for my lower back! Currently using it on a cheap ikea chair and I haven’t felt lower back issues in weeks. My boyfriend tried it and loved it so much he bought it to supplement his office chair for wfh.

Any books/self help materials for someone who is constantly worrying (and waste a lot of unnecessary time)? E.g. No matter if i pass or fail an interview, there is always something to worry about. Home office preference question. I am getting ready to redo the layout of my home office. One option I'm considering would have my desk facing a wall. I am wondering if anyone with this current setup has any feedback about it.
