Just make it known with HR; they can't really do anything about it but work around it
Work at Jones Day?
Yes, you have the right to fully practice your faith. At my firm, there is a partner who fully observes the Sabbath and he leaves to be home by sundown on Friday and does not work until sundown Saturday.
Yes, they work Sunday as needed.
There are conservative jews in most big law firms and they have no problem observing their sabbath. I don’t know why it would be any different for you.
Tell them that for you God and his commandments come first in your life. It’s not like being a lawyer requires working on weekends like other careers ie. retail, medical, law enforcement etc. The Bible is clear about not working on the Sabbath. For some Christians who follow the Old Testament they don’t work on Saturdays-others don’t work Sunday.
I think you can expect people to be annoyed and talk some shit about you at first. But if you do good work and it’s clearly based on your faith and not just an excuse, they’ll accept and respect you eventually.
Otherwise, though, leave your religion at home unless you want to weird people out.
Partner 2, that's what I said above, in a post that got dumped on. Perhaps I was a little too brash. But my sentiment was the same as yours. If they really cared that much, they'd be doing public interest. Don't come to BigLaw to make gobs of money, but then expect ME to cover every Sunday because you won't.
Yes prayerfully express your concern/ask HR and/or your team leader. Besides attending church on Sunday’s are you volunteering (ministry) the same day? If it’s a day you volunteer you can make that known ahead of time. Now as far as NOT working every Sunday, as a Christian, is it really convicting you?
If you really cared that much, you'd be in a profession whose number one end-game wasn't money. Go work like everyone else does.
Oh lordy, you are definitely on the partner track, with an already deeply developed set of a**hole skills. I always wonder what folks like you would do if you couldn't work law because I am not sure there's any other profession would have you (not really much of a compliment to the legal profession, though...).
