Any casualty adjusters/litigators worried a potential build up of cases due to courts shutting down during the pandemic? State court backlogs continue to grow with no end in sight.

Just experienced this today. Plantiff counsel working on reductions, court pressing for action after suit was filed to preserve statute. PC not able to provide any extension as they were denied by the court. PC suggest we ask the court for a continuance to provide more time for them to secure adequate reductions... I feel this is only the tip of the iceberg.

Where I am the courts have been pushing cases to trial aggressively to try and free up the backlog. Much harder to get a continuance now.

Interesting. Thanks. Are they also pushing for settlements/mediation?

Yes I am in the thick of it now with several mediations and upcoming trials.

My firm typically does insurance defense, but we take plaintiffs cases here and there. Is it typical that work done by associates on contingency cases isn’t counted toward their billable hour requirements unless and until we receive our fee on the case? This is my first experience with this, but it’s hard for me to reach my hours as is, without spending time on non billable cases like this with no assurance that I’ll see billable credit at the end.

I work in insurance. I was working for an Allstate agent and was fired the day after my grandmothers funeral for being “unenthusiastic in our morning meeting”. Now I’m having anxiety searching for a job. I don’t think I want to sell anymore yet every single recruiter I interview with says I should, that I have a “salesperson mentality”. I’m burnt out. Has anyone else felt this way? How did handle it? Is there a different career path I can take or am I destined to sell insurance forever?
