I’ve never heard of such a scale as you are proposing (“% of a deal”). I’m pretty sure you just get a performance/year end bonus like everyone else. I may be wrong here, but i highly doubt they’ll comp you at a % of the volume of deals you close.
I would ask the employer how they comp’d the last person that was in that role before you go proposing ideas.
You can try for equity and/or performance bonus as BCG suggested…some friendly advice to you - do not even bring the “x% of deal volume etc.” talk into the discussion with the employer and just come back down to earth. Best of luck!
Lol, you will not receive ‘% of the deal’ whatever that means - think about the bad incentives that would create. You should receive a bonus based on equity value creation, and ideally options in the company that will appreciate if you are succesful
I asked because this is reality. Currently negotiating.
Unless you're doing corp dev for a company that's selling it's assets, taking % of a deal isn't realistic.
Corp dev, just like any other employee, would just go through the standard annual review process and compensation adjusted that way. You're not a banker...
