@ OP, don't you sound all high and mighty. Get the fuck over yourself, delegate and communicate with your client. If you've gotten to the point where you need a last minute excuse for getting out of jury duty I'm thinking you waited to long and made it an issue. Call the clerk as ask for a deferral, if you need this much hand holding I sure wouldn't want you managing my engagements as a client.
@SS, being an unemployed grandma doesn't make you any more or less qualified to be on a jury than being a "professional" does. it all has to do with your personal biases and ability to be impartial. an unbiased impartial grandma is more qualified to sit on a jury than a racist "professional" is.
Just go. It's your civic duty.
Start every sentence with, "According to the prophet" and you'll be fine 👌
Actually it really bothers me that, knowing most crimes are victimless bullshit pushed by the state, you act like this is the worst. No one gives a fuck about your workpapers, but some poor kid with some drugs might spend a decade behind bars because the retarded neocons on the bench said 'well, those are the rules!'.
So what was the point of your post 23 hours ago saying you're desperate if you served this week... also what about your dramatic response about running your engagements and client deadlines. Childish.
Looking at my posts I want to apologize for being a jerk to Deloitte1. I was being immature and childish. Being stressed out about work is no reason for taking it out on ppl here. I'd like to think we fam here. There isn't room for jerks like me spouting off at other members of the fb community. So to Deloitte1, I am sorry for my unkind words, for being condescending and patronizing and childish.
Chances that you get picked to be on a jury aren't that high. Chances are even lower that you'll need to serve more than one day.
Ma2 - nah I served this week. Judge excused me!
And hope I don't get call
Deloitte 1 - something tells me if you ran your own engagements you wouldn't be saying that. Client deadlines don't move because you have jury duty.
So I'm 100% sure work is not an excuse unless you're out of town.
Also, there is an entertaining video on YouTube about Jury Nullification.
Unless I misunderstood OP i think the whole point of this post was getting out of SERVING on the jury. Everyone can afford to take a day to attend jury selection but not everyone, especially with busy season and client deadlines, can afford to serve for the duration of the trial.
They let you reschedule up to 6 months, I usually push it back to a week with holidays like thanksgiving
Pwc1 - post the link
While I don't subscribe to the 'muh civic duty' or positive obligation approach, you should know that jury nullification is perhaps the most meaningful thing for another human being you can do in your entire life.
Just defer it as many have said. It's what I had to do with mine when I got my summons a couple years ago and had client deadlines on the original date. And if on the off chance you get called in for jury questioning and you can't miss work, answer the questions in a way to ensure they'll cross you off their jury selection list. Worked for me.
@OP think about it this way. If you are on trial, would you want your jury full of unemployed people and grandmas who can take a day off? Would you be OK without having competent jury members deciding your fate because all the qualified people were too busy with work? For better or worse it's s civic duty. America doesn't ask much of its citizens, but it does ask this. If you can't handle it, then turn in your passport and renounce your citizenship. Jury duty is a civic duty of all Americans and by the simple fact that you choose to be an American citizen, you inherently accept this duty.
^You obviously missed where I was going with this. My point is that if you were on trial you would want competent and impartial jurors. Therefore, you should fulfill your civic duty and just do the damn jury service.
Jury nullification, again. Read up on it. I served on a jury and couldn't get out of it...I will next time.
