I am from bangalore! How long is the trip? Make sure you don't skip breakfast! It would be the best part of your day at your hotel!
If this is your first trip to India I would stay away from using tap water (including ice). Bottled water for everything (including brushing) and avoid things uncooked (no fruits or raw vegetables). Bangalore has lots of bars and a great night life so you'll enjoy yourself.
Never been there but I love Lonely Planet travel guides. There are tons of great books for different price points. Try Half Price Books or Amazon? If Amazon is week try Amazon UK. The shipping will be extra but there might be a better selection for this particular topic.

I've been to bangelore. There isn't much to do there specifically but if you can take a weekend you should go to the Maldives. They are a string of islands about and hour and a half flight. There is a mall right across the street from our office too. UB city has a beautiful high end mall with an eating area that we would go to when we got home sick because it looks like Miami. Also we would eat and drink at Sonny's all the time. Always make sure they open the bottled water in front of you at restaurants. Sometimes they will refill bottles with tap water. Make sure you use all your rupees before you go through security at the airport. You won't be able to exchange them or spend them after. Have fun!
You'll enjoy the traffic for sure
