I'm a former purchaser. My best advice? Know your Orders VS. Inventory like the back of your hand! I constantly ran usage reports to try and estimate usage for the following month. Holding back unnecessary large drug purchases until the next billing cycle (by utilizing the previous mentioned usage reports). Make sure you can physically track your inventory daily, even if just doing a brief shelf inspection. You'd be surprised how many drugs will be put in the incorrect spots on the shelf, this causing you to "run out" of inventory and have to order more unnessarily.
Hi! So I work very closely with both tech and buyers. The difference I see with the need for buyer over tech is a little higher level thinking as well as more technical and inventory skills. I would sharpen your excel skills, review items to sharpen your analytical skills, and start thinking further out. Not what you need right now but what you will need. Also, I’m open to talking with you if needed. I currently work with our team members who are doing that exact transition.
