GU and NYU while being far and away the most reputable programs really don’t have much leeway, they know someone else will simply pay full price for the degree
UF LLM will give you in state tuition (20k ish) if you don’t have a Tax LLM in your current state.
Absolutely. Basically put, the living expenses itself in NY & to a certain extent DC are more expensive than the entire cost of UF Tax llm. I earn about 130k (10k sign on bonus) and I work along with so many NY, GT folks and quite a few of them have spent upwards of 50-70k even with a scholarship & those without a scholarship ended up spending upwards of 100k. And it’s not like all of NY folks are ending up in BL too, it’s probably 25-35%. Most people end up going to b4 only.
Northwestern gives a full ride if you’re on the tax lawyer, the ABAs tax journal that NU houses and runs.
Yeah forsure! Each class is about 36-45 people, and 6 are on the exec board or whatever it’s called of the journal. For those 6 tuition is taken care of. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were other students with hefty schollys but I’m not sure. Im a current student and can ask a few friends
UF Tax LLM working in NYC Big4 Intl Tax. I barely paid 25-30k and earning the same as anyone from NYU or GT. You can message me if you wanna know more about the program.
^ no. Up until very recently big 4 firms could not give legal advice (it’s starting to change a bit). They also are not known for the drafting of documents, more so just structuring / consulting
I’m a little skeptical of the Northwestern love here. NU didn’t offer me any more than NYU or GULC did when I applied (all offered half tuition).
Hi A2, do you mind sharing your stat? I am planning to apply for the Tax LLM next year, and am wondering what are those programs looking for in the candidates? I am currently above average in a T30, and really wanted to know my chance in getting into NYU or GULC.
