Yes — a paying nonprofit client that pretty aggressively demanded far too much agency time and resource relative to their budget.
Yes. I a major Omnicom agency, the CEO earned a lot of bonus points and love from the staff by calling an agency wide meeting to announce he had fired one of our bigger clients who was very abusive to the staff, actually screaming at their young female account executive a couple of times.
I wonder if this was the same agency I worked at or if this is just more common than I thought
Yes -- the client was Shop Your Way (the rewards department of Sears). They sucked up soooo much time and energy from us the agency had to let them go (after they won a bigger client lol)
worked on a household item brand that would always say yes to work and then back out last minute to account people after green lighting. we ended up letting them go because they never wanted to do anything interesting and were afraid to take risks because they were a “family” brand.
Oh yeah. Twice.

No but I feel like there were times where the agency made it very easy for the client to cut ties.
I heard the folks who took over an account I used to be on made a case internally to the higher ups to fire the client. But I’m skeptical the agency will do it and even if they did, it probably wouldn’t be presented like “we’re firing you for these valid reasons” - the holdco would prob just shift them a do different agency with some bs about how they’re better equipped for the clients needs.
