Anyone else feels like not returning to this job ever? I’m really not looking forward to tomorrow…

My new year’s resolution was to take meaningful action to make my life better. Submitted my resignation with the new year.

like

Post resignation I have taken on two more deals. I need to start saying no.

Why don’t you look for something else if this no longer excites you? Life is too short to spend it working in a job you dread once you’ve sufficient savings put aside.

like

What is sufficient in your view? I struggle with this, keep saying "one more year"

I don’t enjoy elements of this job - sometimes the grind is frustrating, sometimes I just want to try something else. But I try and remind myself of all the good about this while taking steps to network for an eventual exit. Hard to make quick moves at this level so I’m just trying to be deliberate while doing enough to perform above the median level at work.

Absolutely find another role that you are excited about. Sure there is a lot of unpleasant tasks in a role, but overall you should like it.

If you’re dreading your 8-12h/day job, then your life is unbearable. It will leak to your family relations, your outlook on life, and eventually impact your confidence and health. Avoidance, disengagement, and fear bear no positive on you, your family, and your team.

You are most likely very talented in many ways. Our next generation needs you to become leaders. The market needs your experience and skills. You owe it to yourself to find your new path.

One thing that has helped me… just disconnect from colleagues who cause stress. I’ve realized over the years that what causes the greatest angst for me was working with people who don’t operate in good faith. And therefore, any conversation I had with them was always about positioning, moving the goal-posts, etc.

I took 6 months off to explore something else and maybe I’m a glutton for punishment but I miss the hard-charging part of consulting. I just know that I don’t want to go back to my former firm. I’m now headed to CES to see if any firms are looking for a former industry SME and recent practice lead. Let me know if you’ll be there. I’d love to meet more PPMDs.

like

Wow. I like the idea of using something like CES to reenergize and imagine new endeavors

I stayed at one firm for 30 years. It's a high burn career, and there are good periods with intermittent tough periods. I had some burnout in the 90s, but survived the 2000-2003 down turn, crash of 2008, and COVID. The rest was great. But if you are feeling that it's all a grind, it might be time to reevaluate where you are and what you are doing.

What is it that makes you dread tomorrow? The choice of word “ever” is a strong statement.

Understood. Your feelings are valid so I would start looking at other work alternatives.

Me!

Yeah 3 years to mandatory retirement and I am fading fast. At this point in my career, I want to build leaders, develop teams and focus exclusively on what is important to my clients. Unfortunately my performance is still only measured by one single metric of engagement revenue. I sometimes wonder if lowered comp in later years, depending on role, would ease that pressure and dissonance. I want to be accretive to my partners.

A week or so ago, someone shared a stacked bar chart of each MBB/Big 4 firm that highlighted the percentage of consultants that say they work 40, 50, 60 hours etc a week at each firm. I have searched endlessly to find that chart but haven’t had any luck. Not even on google. Does anyone know the chart I’m referring to?

I spent the last 3 months "growing up" & now I'm ready to go. 1st thing is for me to get my own place. I'd like to buy instead of rent because I don't want to pay someone else's mortgage.

I'm thinking of selling my car & cash out some of my 401k to buy a house. My thought is to put down 3.5% for a FHA loan then make a big payment towards the principal to reduce long-term interest.

Anything wrong with this thinking or anything else I should consider?

Hello Folks,
Does
UST provides variable every 6 months. On offer it’s mentioned as annual component, but HR is saying it will come every 6 months.
Also for PF deduction, do they deduct only minimum value of 2100 and we can’t get it altered to 12% of basic pay. UST UST Global

Switching career fields - Any advice on virtual ‘Brand Strategy’ courses/certificates/tools/websites etc?

I’ve heard of classes by Mark Pollard & Julian Cole or courses via Udemy, Hubspot, Credly - would love to add a noteworthy certificate to my LinkedIn but not 100% necessary. Mostly looking to increase my knowledge in a career field I know nothing about.
