I know I'll get in trouble for this one but.... after 19 years I think nurses are the problem. For many of the leadership positions, they're not equipped to be placed in those positions, given their academic experience. I've seen organizations that have "Director of Patient Care" requiring a BSN with 3-5 years experience. Not good.
Thank you. I have learned to hit the points in my resume and I end up tailoring each one to the specific job. It’s a challenge but I’m sure it will be worth it.
I think there are a lot of things staff do not see around reasons why it’s hard to do things in large health orgs. Often times our division offices want XYZ but don’t understand the implications of that change across the entire org
From my experience, yes. Just one look at how many have dealt with the pandemic, definitely. Money money money. They are businesses.

Yes, I’m able to see all replies. In reference to hospitals getting paid a lot of money for COVID and pandemic related deaths, unfortunately that’s a terrible myth that got out out there. The hospitals did receive some reimbursement tied to the pandemic and care provided, but it was by no means a financial windfall. In fact most lost an incredible amount money that they’ll never be able to recoup. I can’t speak to the specifics of your particular hospital, but in terms of the industry it got absolutely hammered during this time. That said, I do have immense respect for nurses during this time period as those who stayed in the industry felt the brunt of the weight of the system falling onto them in a stressful time. There were a lot of people navigating layoffs, furloughs, long hours and a stressed out society and that is still being felt across the board.

No, there are plenty of well run health systems across the country. I’m sure there are some poorly managed ones as well, but in my experience folks are trying to do the right things but that can be awfully challenging. I guess some of comes down to what you may be referring to when you use these terms, as there are instances where decisions at the senior level are coming out of a place of necessity but are nevertheless painful for those at the local level.
