I had a woman yanking hard on the door 15 minutes before the restaurant opened. I opened the door and asked her if I needed to call the police because I thought she was having an emergency. She asked me if I could let her in sit at the bar and have a drink and they will wait for me to open. Huh?
When I worked in fast food I would be on the opening shift a lot, people would sit in the drive thru for 30 minutes before we opened. We’d come on the speaker and say we weren’t open until so and so time, and they’d say yes, I know, still going to wait. Ok, suit yourself I guess.
These people are the retail equivalent of the airplane passengers who jump out of their seats the second the plane touches ground. I get that you want to knock your errands out quickly, but chill for a second. Our hours exist and are posted on the doors for a reason!!
Oh, for sure. Happens every day. I’m still trying to get the store together, and there they are, at the door, practically peeking in. It’s like, can I just get the alarm off and the lights on before you start your shopping spree?
It never fails, there's always somebody. And half the time they're not even eager to buy something, they're just perpetual browsers. It's like they've got nothing much going on and racing to a store to hang out and do nothing is their idea of a perfect day. It takes all kinds, I guess.
Back when I worked at a donation retail store, we had regular customers who would show up long before we even opened. They’d stand in line, practically waiting for the doors to open, and as soon as we did, they’d rush in like it was Black Friday. It got a little chaotic at times, but it was always interesting to see how seriously some people took their ‘early bird’ shopping routine!
