Anyone else have to go over budget? How did you justify it to yourself?

We managed to be reasonable about everything, but the florist is $6k instead of the $3k we had allocated for it. We wanted to get the whole thing done in $10k. But seeing the florist’s plans was the first time I got excited about having a wedding!

You really can’t do a wedding with vendors for 10k because of the costs of vendors. If you can afford it, don’t feel bad for going over budget. I don’t regret how much we spent at all - it was such a fantastic day and seeing all our friends and family in one place partying together was so worth it. And we spent LOT more than that

You don't go in debt to pay for your wedding and you shouldn't blow your whole safery net. After that it a question of will you regret not spending it. It's not a savings if you'll be disappointed. 10 yr from now you don't want to think back and wish you had.....either spent...or not spent the money.

But what happens to that 6k of flowers when the event is over. can you donate them to a church or senior center? somewhere you can get a charitable deduction? Can you use silks for some, so they can get some additional use?

In general all projects have 3 goals, finish on time, within budget, and be of high quality. Often 1 of those 3 slip to make the other 2 possible. For a wedding, that usually means the budget.😉

Worth trying to get quotes from other vendors for the same items I got mixed quotes from 2-6k from different florists

We have gone almost 2x our original budget which we can afford but I didn’t want to spend originally. Certain things were important and add up quick, but we are saving where we can.

like

Some of it goes to wanting to not spend too much but at some point if you are already spending X amount, if you don’t do certain things you may regret it (who actually knows if you will). So then you have spent your budget but may not be as happy with what you did do. This being said I wanted to elope but that idea was rejected.

Thoughts on kindly asking your bridesmaids to please not give a gift? I am over the moon excited that my bridesmaids will be celebrating me and traveling for the wedding and bachelorette. I really do not want a gift from them at the wedding. Full disclosure, my fiancé and I have great paying jobs and my bridesmaids are grad students, artists, and teachers. How would you frame this? Even if they were millionaires I would not want a gift, but I don’t want it taken the wrong way.

Hi everyone - We are thinking of changing our wedding photographer after unsatisfactory engagement photos and unsatisfactory communication (unresponsive after multiple attempts). We paid a $450 retainer which we know will be not refundable. However, we are not sure about other liability as we read our contract and found these 2 clauses (in comments). Please advise! Definitely not happy with her and would like to switch to another one but also want to make sure we make the right move. Thanks!
