What’s one thing about being an entertainment lawyer that ppl are surprised to find out?

I’m a new patent prosecution associate and unfortunately only just now realized that maybe prosecuting patents isn’t something I want to do long term. I loved copyright (and trademark) in law school, but I have loans to pay off. Should I stick it out in my current role to pay them off before I jump ship to a new practice area or will I be pigeonholed forever to patents if I stay here for 2-3 years?

Hi everyone, I’m currently a junior in big law working in IP and Tech Transactions. My goal is to go in house at a film studio and practice production law. I’m having trouble figuring out how I transition into this industry. Can someone share possible pathways? What salary can a second or third year transitioning to in house expect? How can I prepare myself now to be a viable candidate?

Might have an interview with the legal team at a studio. Junior role, TV production, 0-3 years experience, I have about 1 year. What skills/qualities should I highlight? And what makes a good in-house lawyer?

Currently work in-house for a luxury house of fashion brands in NYC and want to make a move to a law firm focused on media, entertainment, technology. I currently handle commercial transactions in the marketing/advertising space (e.g., production, talent, licensing agreements). What firms would you recommend that I target? I am open to all sizes so long as the firm is highly rated and reputable.

This might be extremely niche, but does anyone here work on content acquisition/production for a streaming service, studio or platform? If so, what kinds of resources or trade groups do you find helpful? I’d really love to connect with other lawyers in this field and talk shop or host panels related to this area of law.

I have a background in film, worked in Hollywood and directed an independent film. Been practicing law outside of the entertainment Industry for the last 12 years. I run my own firm now. Any advice on taking on entertainment law and breaking into that area?
