Anyone else here a masseuse? Of late, I've been having this issue where clients insist on “deep tissue” but tense up the whole session, and then complain it was too painful or not effective. It makes it really hard to give them the pressure they say they want while keeping them safe. Have you dealt with this? What kind of precautions are you taking so they don't leave unsatisfied?

You are the exact kind of masseuse I need. I'm always complaining about the opposite, not feeling it enough. There's nothing better than having someone really dig into those deep knots.

You have to check in repeatedly. If you do that, and they consistently tell you the pressure is good, then that's on them. But I find that if you only ask at the beginning, people might be regretting their decision once it starts but they don't feel comfortable asking for something different until you ask.

As a fitness coach, I deal with this mindset a lot as well.
Clients often want intensity, but relaxation, breathing, and proper communication are what actually make deep work effective.
Educating clients during the session really helps manage expectations and improves satisfaction.

Yes, that’s a tricky balance. I usually check in constantly, explain what to expect, and adjust pressure gradually. Clear communication before and during the session makes a big difference in keeping them comfortable and satisfied.

As a customer, sometimes the deep tissue isn’t the problem but the pressure is in the wrong spot. And other times it’s because the variation between masseuse makes you unsure how to advise. Some barely touch you even after you say deeper but some are too strong. Just make sure to ask the person.

This is such a tricky dynamic, especially when clients don’t understand what their own body is doing under stress. Clear expectations up front seem critical here, especially explaining that tension limits how effective deep work can actually be. It sounds like you’re already trying to protect both the client and yourself, which is the right instinct.

I’m not a masseuse and I’ve only gotten a massage once. I think helping the customer understand how to actually relax and make their muscles. Less tense would be an effective way to get them to loosen up. I think it’s just something that happens in their regular life, so it’s hard for them to break free from the habit of always being tense.

As a realtor, how do I find better commissions? The office I work in has only offered me low-tier listings, and they bring zero to none commission. I want to change that but don't know where to start. Any advice?

How did you tell your manager you’re pregnant? Did it affect pay/promos? And then, subsequently, how did you start letting colleagues know you’re pregnant? Feels awkward to just randomly drop the news in a meeting! I work remotely so it’s hard to tell by video :) I’m 21 weeks and feel like I’ve waited as long as I can to at least notify my manager. I was waiting to negotiate my salary for next year but per company trend that doesn’t get set until January (manager reviews are written in Dec).
