Many judgements of older workers are largely inaccurate. While a lot may have chosen to skip continuing edu, there’s a significant set who have MORE time and ability to focus than a mid-thirties mother of two trying to “have it all!”
yes, it can be an active problem. Maybe turn inward on the begging piece, job hunting sucks. does the job hunt experience feel like begging or are these exceptionally cruel individuals? Confidence is key! Is an exceptionally cruel/immature VP a blessing to expose IN the interview, vs 2-3yrs later?
Assuming your skills are indeed current - your presence is needed and you may have more leverage than you think. Age is just a number. What disempowers you more than…perhaps a mother in her 30s who briefly left the workforce for childcare? Why not you?

Yes. I haven’t been interviewing with people younger than me but I’ve noticed two things:
1. The job listings for roles at my level don’t require enough experience and/or don’t pay enough.
2. When I am able to figure out who got the job, it’s always somebody with half the experience I have.
Yes! Same on the point of the job going to people with less experience. I always look up a few months after interviewing to see who got the job and consistently it’s been given to people who don’t have deep brand experience like I do.
this is sadly a young person’s game. i’m closing in on 40 and have already started plotting my exit/career pivot. the corporate slug has really hit me since we’ve all returned to the office.
however, i think it is very hard for anyone to find a job in the industry at the moment.
