Anyone have days/weeks where nothing seems to be going right? I had a couple months where things were smooth and now I’m just facing really tough situations in so many of my cases and it’s gotten me into that “survival mode” panic mindset. Trying to deal with it, I’ve been in worse situations before but it’s so awful and I’n trying not to spiral. It affects me so much, including out of the office and when I’m not working.

This happens to all lawyers from time to time. A few thoughts. 1) try to slow yourself down enough to prioritize tasks, do one thing at a time, and avoid trying to multitask. Ricocheting between multiple things increases the stress, slows progress almost to a halt, and increases the likelihood of mistakes. 2) delegate and get out of the way. If you can get help to narrow your range of responsibilities that can dramatically reduce your stress. 3) spend 80% of your time on important things and if you have to do so let less important things slide. 4) practice intentional self care. Take a walk outside. Eat and hydrate. Sleep. Kiss someone you love. It doesn’t take a lot of time to mange basic needs and if you don’t you can spiral pretty quickly.

This will pass.

Yes! I'm adjusting to a new job and I'm in a rut where I feel like I'm not doing anything right.😭

I'm just praying that Murphy turns his attention elsewhere so that I can get my feet under me and stop making dumb mistakes.

Yes! I’m in that zone right now and it’s awful. I wish I had a solution for us, but it is nice to know that I’m not the only one.

I have 3 cases that all have discovery issues and trial dates within 2 months. Everyday is an issue.

Hello! I’m a law student who’s graduating in 2023 from a top Canadian law school. I’m really hoping to land a first-year associate position at a US law firm (or in the Toronto office of a US law firm) this summer, and I’d appreciate any advice on how to do so as there is no formal recruit/I did not participate in the 2L NY/LA recruit. I’m open to any corporate transactional work. Thank-you!

Started a new job 7 months ago. There’s been a hiring freeze and it seems they canned the recruitment team. Things seems to be slowing down drastically in the span of a week. Getting the resume all spiffed up and getting interviews together. When do you make the exit? “When you find a job” I know, but…

Also, would me making my exit to another role that I might leave in a 8 months bite me in the ass down the line? Do I just grab anything in the interim?

I was expecting to get to ICT4 but seems like team thinks upper end of ICT3 is more apt. Also, I think it is because I don’t have any counter offers yet.

Hello! I’ve previously only dated white guys. While in quarantine I’ve gone on dil mil and made an effort with brown guys on apps. I’m so bad at writing the background/ facts section for briefs… it always gets heavily edited and no one is giving me constructive feedback other than “advocate more”. In contrast, my legal argument section is generally without edits. For context, first defense lit job post appellate clerkship. Is this normal?? Any tips for getting better other than “advocating more”?
