Anyone have experience in working for boutique PE firms? If you were starting over, would you choose this path again?

My partner works for a very small PE firm. It has its ups and downs - but better for him than working in industry as he is quite entrepreneurial.

It largely comes down to liking and respecting the people you work with.

Regarding the ups and downs, when making investments, no matter how much diligence, losses can happen. Whether it’s the wrong team or bad market luck or unforseen circumstances - like a CEO dies suddenly revealing a litany of bad deals in his wake - (happened) . Or there can be upside surprises, although rare.

That said, the job can be very interesting especially to the quantitatively inclined.

Started my consulting career at boutique firms - from my observation, they don’t have the infrastructure to train recent grads into consultants. But once you’re past staff, it’s a great place to be

My husband has worked for a boutique PE firm based in NYC for 3 years. He likes the challenges but has not got a bonus, raise, or promotion since he started. He’s work life balance imo is shit and the money isn’t worth it. He’d travels constantly too. He’d make a lot more with growth opportunities if he left and joined the big 4 with his skills. I’m biased obviously bc I think his company takes advantage of him

How are people getting interviews with boutique firms? I’m finding it hard to find the right contacts

I have a partner who routinely ignores emails or responds to them several weeks later. He has to approve every single document sent to the client or the court, which means you have a physically go to his office to ask him to review something. Half of the time you go to meet with him in person, he’s either on a call or otherwise busy. I find that this basically creates more work and makes meeting deadlines extremely difficult. Is this normal?

Any advice on how to tastefully tell your manager that you no longer want to be a charge nurse anymore? For us being in charge is having full assignment 3p-7p & being responsible for assigning pts , communicating w/ supervisor about various issues, making the assignment for next shift, and a mini report about each pt for the next charge. On the weekends, same responsibilities but 7a-7p. We don't get any additional pay for being in charge and I'm sick of the added responsibility and stress of it.

Anyone with psychologist partners or friends? Trying to help my wife figure out next steps in her career. Currently is a clinical psychologist seeing about 20 ppl/week for 120-130 dollars a person (she currently takes insurance). IMO this limits her overall earning potential. Trying to figure out if she could: drop insurance and charge more, scale out and build her own practice, and/or work more (could maybe see 26-28 ppl/week).
