"The Martian" was a good movie and an even better book. The entire "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" series is phenomenal. "The Battle that Stopped Rome" is a really interesting read about a battle that marked the high-water mark of the Roman Empire...and helps explain why the French drink wine and the Germans drink beer.

Doesn't matter fiction or nonfiction!

Also don't read The Girl on the Train. Cheap attempt at psychoanalysis, written in 6 months. It's fiction that adds nothing to society but cheap entertainment. Girl loses husbanded gets drunk and becomes stalky. Bad shit ensues. Book jacket promises more; doesn't deliver

Any podcasts, book recommendations on diplomacy strategies at work? My mindset is not very political, so cannot see offense coming to me when someone is crossing me over or sidelining me. Also I don’t like being nosy or overstepping but have definitely being on the receiving end. Tired of people who just keep mansplaining, interrupting thinking they are the smartest! I am a polite person, or at least I think I try to be respectful of all. But at the same time I don’t want to be playing victim.

I wanted to celebrate two firsts in my career! For the first time I have gotten 2 job offers in the same period. I was getting underpaid at my current position, $80k. I have been interviewing for 5 months, and first I got an offer for 25% More (100k) and negotiated it up to 105k which was my first time negotiating a salary (scary!) Last night I got an offer for lead designer 130k which is 60% more than current salary. The market is hot! If you’re unhappy get out there and interview!!

So for this company, I gave 3 rounds of interviews...the last round was with manager...he asked my exp salary, I said 10lpa. On further negotiation, he agreed for giving something between 9.5-10 including bonus n ol. Now, HR mailed me a proposed salary of 7lpa🥴. Over call she said the manager who agreed for 9.5+ is not from hr department and giving this much hike is against company policy. Later she said to add 50k JB and 100k RB. What should I do now? Current CTC: 6 lpa Yoe: 1

Looking for advice on how to career pivot. My husband is a general manager for a company that has HQ in a different state so growth opps are limited unless we move. How do I help him pivot into a more corporate job somewhere before it’s too late and he’s pegged as a boots on the ground GM? He has so much potential but I feel like all people see on his resume is that he’s a GM of a location as opposed to an operations leader especially when applying to jobs on LinkedIn.
