Anyone manage people under you that you don't necessarily feel respected by? What do you do about it?

I was this person. I did respect them but my personality and theirs don't quite match so I may appear dismissive or aloof or not listening. I only had the feedback during an evaluation. I personally sought them out, apologized, and explained my part. I take my work seriously but I'm glad I no longer have to explain myself whenever I hear the same comments from those newly onboard or who had a transfer. They're used to me now.

Sometimes it’s simply communication. Some people just want to be disrespectful simply because they don’t want the person in charge to be in that role. You can ask or answer a question and that person chooses to respond negatively. It doesn’t even matter if you were polite. If they can get enough people to band wagon campaign, then there you go. . . I’m in no way justifying anyone’s misconduct.. I prefer a drama free workplace. Do the job you’re being paid to do.

I've had this happen once and I pulled them to the side to have a conversation. Turns out it was a big misunderstanding. We're fine now

Additional Posts in Black in Healthcare

I saw a great thread online about a Black physician who saved the day when a patient came in for an urgent MRI, but had metal pins in her wig so none of the white nurses or doctors could get it off. Black Physician rushed in with some alcohol and got it off in no time. We are crucial to the healthcare field for so many reasons, remember that!

Does anyone else constantly get mistaken for a nurse? I get it, I'm 5'4 and Black and work in pediatrics, but the assumption and casual racism is kind of ridiculous when the actual nurse has just told you that the doctor's coming and then I walk in the door. Doesn't really help when I'm one of the only Black on-call physicians. Annoying.
