Hi, I'm leaving Citi in 2 months. It's hard to make this decision. I have an offer from a small startup. In citi, my previous experience was not considered and was reskilled to different tech which is the reason for change.I don't like to exit citi. As I like the company so much. But considering my current knowledge,I am in the middle of the sea.I am afraid now that the new company's offer would be revoked due to this recession?Or can I take back my resignation in citi before the last working day.Is this wise decision?

Personally I do think it’s exaggerating outside of Times Square or bad neighborhoods. Feels fine and the same as it always was.
I feel pretty safe as a 6’3 guy but I’m still actively mitigating risks and tend to only be in safer areas. It’s definitely worse than 2 years ago but not life altering for me. However, a lot of the recent high profile attacks have been mostly random, so there’s only so much you can do. I fear for others tho. A homeless person tried to randomly assault my girlfriend with a lighter with me literally right there (which you’d expect to be a deterrent) a month or so back, and since then I’ve been really worried about her going out alone.

Same my gf got called out for being Asian while she was alone. I’d break a homeless guys face and I wouldn’t care bc liberals literally are the epitome of yelling “help them but I won’t”
They’ll be the first to just look or pretend they didn’t see anything when shit happens and not help. You can’t even rely on anyone to help you in public bc they’re softer than dog sh*t
100% exaggeration. Tech workers new to NYC are finally having to come face to face with the consequences of the systems they built.
By this logic, homelessness didn’t exist pre-2001

Not exaggerating. More homeless than 2 years ago and they’re getting a bit rowdy
Rising Star
Definitely not exaggerating

Had a scary experience last night in the subway in an elevator (only way to get to the platform). First time I’ve ever been truly scared for my safety. Don’t feel safe anymore
Thats terrifying.. Sorry and glad you are safe!
Exaggerating for the most part. Most of the scenarios people mention are things I’ve seen in the past. Maybe they’re more visible now with fewer riders overall.
I’ve been here for 15 years. I personally haven’t seen a huge difference and have always seen a fair amount of homeless folks on platforms and in cars.
Subway is not great. Felt it was safer before.
Imo be aware. Nyc like a lot of cities with a homeless population will surprise you at times. Staying aware of your surroundings goes a long way
So.. I think it's exaggerated but still worse than it was even a few months ago. I go to PT at night a few times a week (and have been since summer 2021)-- am typically not back to my apartment until 10pm. I decided to stop going late nights recently because it's been feeling more unsafe.
But to be clear, I'm female and recovering from an injury so I feel like an easy target
I feel like that depends on what station you're at and at what time. If you're going to be out when other people are, especially during the weekend, you'll be fine. But if you're gonna be drunk at 2am, best to call a rideshare.

I’d take a taxi if past dark, even if it’s 8PM. I don’t feel comfortable in the large transit or “tourist” stations either (Penn, Times Square)
Bus in Manhattan has been okay for me so far but again I only take them during the day

A little exaggerated. Worse than before but I haven’t changed how alert I feel like I need to be (always been high).
Pro
I take the usual precautions and am aware of my surroundings, and feel pretty safe even late at night (though I mostly travel through busy/popular stations). (small female here)
Going off the comments on this thread, not surprisingly it’s all relative.
Seems like NYC used to have much safer subways. Having moved here myself last summer from a city in the Midwest, the subway safety level seems on par with other public transportation I’ve been on (saying this as a 6’1 male).
However, if I’m going home drunk and it’s past 230/3 I’m definitely just ubering/walking

I’m a woman and still take the subway, I’m just more aware of my surroundings
Just got back from nyc. Just took Ubers. I didn’t have time in my schedule for a traumatic event
It's fine. I'm a woman. I haven't noticed much of decline that warrants changing my behavior.
Eh, it's ok. I usually take the 456 and my stop is GC. I haven't encountered anything crazy. With that being said, I try to take the bus as much as I can, and i cab after midnight.
I think it's a bit exaggerated. There will always be some incidents, but there also always have been. Feels not much different now than it always has
