I have probably become less materialistic because as a female working around all men: I never envy the material possessions of other women simply because I never see any other women! There is nobody around me whose dress or jewelry or accessories I can envy! I wear the same five suits over and over and it doesn’t matter to anyone what brand they are
One thing I've learned over 15+ years are my happiest clients aren't enamored with their possessions. They are motivated by their family and experiences.
I grew up dirt poor and thought having things would make me happier. Now that we can afford things, I don't want them.
Less materialistic here.
I notice my wealthy friends are the least materialistic and it is the people who don’t have any wealth who are crazy about material things
No, more humble. Clients trust and value my advice.
I am a CFP who is not motivated by money. I want what is good for my clients.
Used to be when I took some big income leaps in the early years but last few years of expansion has actually gotten me almost to a point of oversaving where I stop and say “dude, treat yourself, you can’t take this with you.” Anyone ever feel that way?
That said when I do treat myself it’s definitely more on experience over material. Nicer hotels, first class flying, tasting menus, etc
Having the financial freedom to treat yourself once in a while is certainly nice. And I do do it sometimes but well within my means. My wife is pretty frugal, some of her friends are very much into high-end name brand stuff, but thank goodness she is not. All in all, I would say we are probably slightly less materialistic than before coming into the industry.
