For some reason, when folks have “fractional CMO” in their headline I laugh. It feels so fluffy and fake. You’re either a CMO or you’re not.
It gives me - we have a 1 person marketing team, I’m not in marketing but I lend my opinions out
I can’t speak for “fractional CMO”s but if you’re a senior-group level freelancer that would actually be doing day to day work, having fractional in titles is actually super helpful bc nowadays a lot of agencies don’t have budgets to bring a freelancer on for full time hours at the rates they’ve historically been charging. If we only have budget for 15-20 hours a week, even though most freelancers (esp out of work ones) would probs take the gig, someone that has labeled themselves as fractional has more clearly signaled that they’re down to take on a part time project without us having to jump through the hoops of finding out
in what context do people use that word?
“Fractional CMO” is very on trend rn. It’s a ridiculous inflation of part-time marketing consultant.
Fractional CMO = Fictional CMO
Feels like you’ll get a fraction of their attention before they flake out or switch to a new buzzword.
I have a former colleague with the title “Fractional C-Level Leader” on LinkedIn and I can’t disagree.
