When applying for a job, what is the strategy when a firm asks you for your compensation requirements? I don’t want to be unrealistic, but I don’t want to sell myself short either.

Junior associate here, should I ask for more money if my firm is about 10-15 percent less hours but about 30 percent less pay? The gap will never be closed to the top pay scale at my firm but when I decided to come to this firm the pay difference was about 15 percent and not 30. How far do you require depts be with negotiating commercial contract terms before your legal review? Is it difficult landing an in-house position as only a second year corporate associate in big law? I know some people who went in-house straight out of law school and some who had no transactional background but went in-house after just a year of practice. Not having that same luck on my end.

How do you get past bad experience with recruiters? Recently got an offer but the recruiter was rude from the beginning and she can't answer any questions about RSU and refuse to negotiate salary at all. I believe we'd see a lot less anxiety and depression. Questions like "Who am I," "Why am I here," and "Where am I going" wouldn't be so crippling and terrifying. We could look beyond ourselves and marvel at the beauty of a universe greater than ourselves.
