4 x10s and 9/80s (1 Fri off every two weeks) are common in the defense contracting business. Big ones like Lockheed, Boeing etc. and even smaller companies in the similar vein I know use these schedules. May vary a little by department though. You may also see schedules like this in unionized roles.

Ah yes the realization that life and family is more than money, very soft
I am sure there are but I haven't heard of them. None of the firms I have worked at offered that, though I wish they did. You could always try to negotiate that into an offer though.
