I don’t think they can do anything about their dog rubbing up against the wall. It’s probably a cheap flat paint anyways that the builders used and you need something like satin paint to block stains, easily rubbing the paint off, etc.
Is the dog biting or eating the drywall? If not I would say this is normal and expected wear and tear on the unit and another reason why I don’t allow pets in my units.

I would only be concerned about major damage. Wall rub marks are normal wear and tear in my book. I plan to repaint anytime a tenant has been in the house for 2 or more years.
What type of dry wall damage is caused by a dog rubbing up against the walls? Like holes in the wall? You’ll need to do paint touch ups anyway, so wouldn’t worry about that. And honestly, dry wall is easy to patch and paint anyway.
Unless it was expensive damage, I’d just let it go if they’ve been good tenants like you said. Why rock the boat?
I guess that depends on how many walls you have to repaint and how long they stay there. I wouldn’t repaint until they move out and you prep for a new tenant. If they stay multiple years then I’d just consider it the cost of doing business. But if it’s repainting multiple walls after one year then that sounds more than normal wear and tear so then I’d consider it.
If you do repaint, then consider using Behr marquis or scuff defense. I had to repaint my primary residence because the last owners used the cheapest paint. My family isn’t that rough on walls and there were marks everywhere. We switched it to Behr and it’s super easy to keep clean and you can just wipe stains off basically. My son used a crayon all over the walls at our last house and we could just wipe it off.
