As a recent Finance graduate looking for entry-level Financial Analyst positions, I have been having difficulty finding a position to get started in my career. My resume could possibly be lacking pertinent information, as I have yet to have any financial experience other than obtaining my degree. Does anyone have any suggestions? Please!

The job market is trash right now. I would recommend networking and trying to get a referral. Sometimes that can help you get your foot in the door somewhere.

Wow. That makes perfect sense. Thanks so much!

I’ve definitely seen how tough this can be starting out. If you don’t have direct experience yet, try leaning into projects, coursework, or even self-driven work like building models or analyzing companies so employers can see how you think. Even internships or adjacent roles can really help get that first foot in the door. It’s frustrating, but this is a pretty common hurdle early on.

Thank you for your response. This was SO encouraging! I greatly appreciate your suggestions. I will most certainly look into doing just that. 🙂

Do you have an alumni network you can start with?

Unfortunately, I don't. I asked Strayer University, where I received my bachelor's, if they could assist in any way and they said no.

I started my career in my hometown, a city with about 135k people. After 4 years was at the point where I buy a house or move to a bigger city (600k people), I went with the ‘big’ city option. I realized I have no reason other than work to be in the new city. Now I’m considering moving back to my hometown. Cont..

Hi everyone, I'm new to Canada and want to start my career here in the Financial and Banking industry. I have passed the CFA level 2 exam and was wondering if I have to complete the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) as most of the job postings here mention about it. I saw that if someone passes at least the CFA level 1 exam then the requirement of CSC is exempted. Can anyone enlighten me about this? As the CSC exam costs above 1000 CAD, I wanted to be sure if I need it before investing behind it.

Just found out that end of the year I will be promoted from analyst directly to VP and since it’s such a large jump I’ll be the lowest paid VP in asset management at only $135k TC. Should I stay it out and wait for TC to align or take the promotion and jump ship bc I will likely get paid more elsewhere given how recruiters/other companies eat up hiring recently promoted ppl from other firms?
