Personally, I think it’s more of a tool than a threat. It might take over the super repetitive stuff (data entry, sorting), but the human side of clinical research (judgment, ethics, patient interaction) can't be replaced by a machine. So I see it more like a smart assistant than a replacement.
AI’s definitely shaking things up in clinical research, but from what I’m seeing, it’s more about speeding up data analysis, reducing redundancy, and supporting decision-making, not replacing human oversight. A friend of mine moved into a role where she reviews AI-assisted outputs, not the other way around.
I think AI is undeniably a threat to employment in many industries, but I'm not concerned about ours. Not for a very long time, anyway. AI is allowing us to expand into areas that otherwise would not have been financially feasible. It will create growth, not job loss.
There are a lot of people who are so worried about AI but I just don’t think it will take our jobs. I do think it can be used to do some of the mundane tasks that take up a lot of our time, but I don’t think it can replace an actual human. I do worry about companies trying to replace humans with it though. I think they will use it to try and maximize profits by replacing people, I just don’t think it will happen in our industry.
