What jobs are currently paying 85k?
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

I feel like that is the perfect time. Your manager is setting out expectations and giving you more tasks and goals, your compensation should be adjusted to meet these expectations.
Agreed! Thank you
Your comp adjustment is based on your last year’s performance and not what you may or may not do in future. You cannot get prepaid for what you plan to do. Goals should be based on what you want to achieve to further your career ambitions , role , promotions etc…comp is one of the outcome of your achieving those.
If you role was expanded in the previous year , then you should’ve brought it up to your manager in Q4 of last year so that they could consider that when determining this year’s comp.
That’s very fair. Thank you. That’s a lot of what I was wondering about
you can bring up the manager you're interested in expanding ur scope and want compensation to match. and a timeline to check in later how you're doing
I feel that's a good way to feel out what's possible before going to far in
If you can find a good opening for the conversation, sure, January is as good a time as any. Be prepared to talk up what you accomplished in the last year and make the case that you're a more valuable asset to the organization than you had been when your current salary was decided. That theme of growth is important, weave that throughout the conversation.
