At what point is it reasonable to take a break from working?

Current Biglaw 6th year. Don’t hate the job but don’t want to do it forever. My net worth is ~$800k, $500k of which is liquid.

I would really love to spend next summer living in a van and hiking until my feet hurt, then return to practicing law in a less intense environment.

No wife, no kids. Want both at some point. But not in a rush.

Looking for some other options in performance reporting from fellow RIAs, who DON'T have integrated solutions with their custodian. Currently using IAS. They cost me about 6k-7k a year. Fed up.

I've become really jaded about consulting. I find all so often you need to tell the client what they want to hear to keep their business and I feel like so much of the what I recommend doesn't actually get implemented. I'm looking to make a career switch so I can both create and execute on my strategies. A product management path seems very promising for this.

I have a partner that calls me multiple times a day to talk about updates on our cases. Sometimes just to ask “anything to update me on?” He’s known across all of the associates for doing this. Most of the calls repeat information I’ve already provided in emails to him or the client. I normally bill this time as “strategize on” or “consider XYZ in further of” and it keeps getting appealed. Hi new here. Idk what my value is and if I’m getting paid an amount that reflects my hard work. I am a paralegal for a small law firm (family and immigration) w only 1 attorney. I have about 20 files or more in my rotation at a time. I work on various types of cases at once. Some are simple, others are extensive.
