Hi all,

I would like to hear out your opinions on internal salary negotiations at the back of promotion.

I'm a Business Analyst with over 10 years experience, been in the same company for the whole time, Currently, I'm below Average Industry standards by approx. 10% for my (current) role.

I have applied for internal job which is effectively one level above, meaning it would be a promotion.

I got the job, awaiting offer.

45% is really difficult because of internal politics, but not impossible. Personally, I’d move company and get that increase in salary you deserve.

I'm actually looking for 20% increase. That would still put me under industry average by 20%

Why would you consider a below market average offer? Is there something about the role or company that you really enjoy or are you just sceptical of moving to a new company?

Time to move out of the company. Use the new level or title and job hunt aggressively outside with a much higher pay. If they increase your salary too much suddenly, you are in their radar for next lay off. Be smarter. Protect yourself and your family. Enough jobs out there

is +45-50% from where I'm right now... I know, I'm not going to get 45% increase, I'm realistic... but wanted to ask about 20% from where I'm right now....

I know that hiring manager originally posted job in US not in Europe, therefore I know that the budget to fill that role is high,

The only thing I'm afraid is the HR team playing their game saying that it is not as per their policy to pay someone 20% increase in one year blahblahblah....

What do You guys think and what advice would you have for me when it comes to negotiations....?

Appreciate your perspective....

Yeah ask for more than 20% if that's your minimum, so there's room for negotiating. But try to get them to share the number/range they have in mind first, and then negotiate from their starting point. And when you talk to them about it don't frame it as % increase but talk about as the amount and market rates. And always lead the conversation with your value & what you'll bring to the role. Finally, if they play the politics and policies and aren't willing to pay you fair market rates in salary, see what else they can give you to get closer to market levels for total compensation by increasing bonus, time off, adding a "sign on" promotion bonus maybe, anything they have to offer that may be more flexible than base salary.

I have a few questions for people in consulting roles (both external/internal).

My partner is in corporate banking, but he wants to switch to a consulting/strategy-based role. I noticed people with those jobs typically have an MBA, and also majority of the job ads in similar roles has MBA as either a requirement or preferred qualification. So:

1) does MBA actually improve someone's chance in getting those roles?
2) are there any good Canadian MBA programs you'd recommend?

Thank you all!

Hi everyone,

I wanted to leverage the hive mind in finding out how best to negotiate a verbal offer for a 100%-remote Product Manager role in NYC, with a IT infrastructure/digital services firm (MNC but non-American):

Base salary: 120k

How competitive is this, and what should I negotiate for please? The written offer comes after verbal agreement.
