BDO northeast tax started laying off high performers in the dead of night with NO clear explanation after getting high performance reviews a mere month earlier. “Reorganization”, according to HR. Their direct reports weren’t even given a heads up. Disappointing but not surprising. The lack of leadership is palpable, which explains their tepid growth and stagnation in the marketplace.
This is foreplay in BDO northeast world. Imagine getting a successful review one month and getting axed the next with no heads up, no rationale, and not telling the team around them while enforcing busy season hours….After crushing it for many years! Just sending a HR stooge in to tell you to turn your laptop off and pound sand. A move right out of Ding Dong Demong playbook. Shameful.
Avoid all firms that took private equity deals. It’s a shortsighted play for current equity owners that you should not participate in.
Or highly leveraged ESOP’s, which are worse! The interest on the debt is higher than the growth of many CPA practices. Which is why BDO ESOP units increased in value less than inflation last year. Marketing ploy geared to employees who don’t look past hollow promises of grandeur. There was a reason BDO didn’t issue any VSP’s in year before the sale despite a “record year”. The whole transaction was a hit-and-run for partners near retirement to cash in and leave a wake of destruction for the next generations.
