I am a senior manager in tax in northeast that was given three months notice. Headcount is too high. And tax in the northeast is doing poorly. Another senior manager in my office was let go a couple weeks ago from FSO.
EY11. As I said, I've been with the firm for 20 years, my first 5 being in finance. I know the firm very well and don't need to "hear" things second hand. I was working to be promoted, however they weren't going to promote me to ED with no partner in my office in my department. And I hardly am sitting comfortably as the clients I am assigned to have required me to work till 3 am regularly. Including while I was pregnant to the point of getting nose bleeds from the stress. The assumption that senior managers don't work shows a lack of experience in the industry. While there may be some slack off, they is generally not the norm. We are assigned more clients and are expected to handle a lot of non chargeable work like teaching staff and seniors who think we don't do anything. That's always the most fun. Spending time away from my family and hours upon hours developing classes to teach people who think they already know it all and my experience means nothing.
What is the vision? That you have no employees?
Vision 2020
Hope all my fellow EY fish bowlers make it through the next few weeks.
Ey8, you deserve recognition for making it this far. It sounds like you've busted your ass for the firm and maybe this is for the best and will open up opportunities you wouldn't have otherwise pursued that you are more than qualified for. Not all of us seniors and staff are ungrateful shitheads
EY9 I was rated 4s and 5s but not unexpected. I've been with the firm 20 years and I know how it goes. I am the only person in my department in a small office. I wasn't willing to travel to 3 hours each way to go to NY where the head of my department is and I am at the level now where they either need to promote me or let me go. Honestly, they are looking at people like me who are in outer offices in upper senior manager levels. EY8 it's New England area. I wouldn't worry. I knew in July this was coming. So if you haven't heard anything, I'm sure you are fine.
HAHAHAHA
Why are you having so many layoffs?
EY8 thank you lol. I know you all aren't. Most of the staff and seniors I worked with were awesome and I have loved mentoring them. It meant a lot to me to see them make senior manager. It's usually just in the training classes I dealt with the attitudes. I'm actually not angry about it at all since I have always known it was coming given my location. But I had to make decisions based on what's best for my family, not the firm.
Get a killer job in industry and enjoy the family life ey8!
EY13 don't let this stuff consume you. I used to worry too. But then it happened and, after the shock, it really isn't so bad. I have already had two job offers making what I make now and both likely would give me a better work life balance. The firm gave me plenty of time to find something while I am still being paid and considered an employee so I don't have to say I am unemployed when looking for work. I am taking with me many years of experience and many many contacts. It was actually very heart warming to see how many people stepped up for me. Worrying won't change the outcome, it will just make you miserable. Enjoy and focus on gaining as much experience you can and making as many friends/contacts as you can. They will be very valuable to you later if you leave for any reason. And even if you end up staying forever.
Thanks for the encouragement, EY 8. Well, you luckily have a lot of experience that you bring to the table. You are very valuable. I just have 1.5 years of staff experience...
What market? Seems like EY is doing more layoffs than any other b4
I've only heard of this hitting south and Midwest markets. Nothing new for any of the big four really as those regions have been doing poorly
It's weird because they hired 40k people in the last 2 years.
At will employment ... Only reason they need is cutting costs.
😧😱 didn't know that
They're keeping their hands off PI for now. I've heard talks about risk in certain markets though
I heard it is because they dont want to pay your salary and have people sit comfortably at a level for a long time without promotion.
