In my experience as a woman (immigrant, came here 6 years ago) is that you can make 100k but climbing up the corporate ladder is only there for women that want to sacrifice their lives to it. I have someone close to me that she does very well but she's got no family (no husband or kids) because she has focused entirely on her career. I wanted kids so I steered away from the corporate ladder. Maybe when my son is older but right now I want to see him by the end of the day and go to the park on weekends. I started as a Sr Accountant recently and a man did too (he's an immigrant too) but he has all the time in the world to be in the office and kiss the right rings. I do not. I work 10 hrs a day and leave the office, he stays. I come in very early so I can meet that 10 hour requirement because in corporate America 8 hour work days do not exist.
I’m a woman in accounting that makes well over $100k and I don’t work crazy overtime. It does exist. There are times I worked long hours, but it’s project based and not consistent. I have put in work life boundaries and as long as I still produce quality work, I continue to get opportunities.
It’s very doable, but you have to find the right company. Long hours doesn’t mean better and honestly a normal position shouldn’t require that much time other than maybe certain projects or deadlines, but that shouldn’t be an everyday, every week, every month thing unless you’re running the company or the company is severely understaffed and you’re doing multiple jobs. If the 1 role needs that, then that isn’t a role or something isn’t being done efficiently.
