As someone whose offer for a new role was rescinded with the hiring freeze and was then laid off from my agency, I would go in with the expectation that your time might be brief and unpleasant because your leadership doesn't know what's going on or doesn't care about federal workers. In HR (admittedly not my area, I worked in IT) I would also anticipate a bunch of half baked technology and weird requirements pushed by the administration.
Do you know this as fact? I got up at 4am to be at my desk by 6am and upwards of 2 hr commute home, didn't take lunches, did my work and others, created programs, high performance ratings and worked my way up from a GS4 with a family for 21yrs to a GS13. Please don't stereotype what you don't know
A lot of people got laid off, but a lot didn't. I still have my government job for the foreseeable future, and I have plenty of friends who are still employed. I think that there is a lot of instability right now, but there are still millions of people who have gainful employment through the government. Apply! You never know what could happen.
No job in government under this administration is safe.
I don’t think anything is safe anywhere right now. As much as I want to advise against government work, it doesn’t really seem as good or bad as what I’m hearing in the private sector anyway. I would go in with managed expectations, is all I can say.
Have you been following all this? Since January its been all thats on. 21 yrs of federal service and receive a 0530 email on April 1st that my entire division is gone, access removed and not a peep from the agency.... what was once a safe place, is a thing of the past. Been sitting in limbo....I would afmdvise anyone seeking to cut your losses and pursue something else . Best wishes
