Believe my only option has been to start a branding business that has been set up for awhile. Only reason I haven’t pulled the trigger/approached customers is out of fear of failure (despite lots of great signs/outside reinforcement that it’s the right move). This said, successful freelancers/design business owners:

1) How did you get over this fear?

2) How did you establish an initial customer base?

I wouldn't say I've created a business for myself just yet. I did set up an UpWork account a couple years ago though and have had success using it to land freelance clients. It was surprisingly easy. I just uploaded some of my favorite work to the portfolio section to showcase my skills and started applying to relevant jobs. Once you get a few completed successfully, it becomes a lot easier to find subsequent clients - it's just a little slow going at first.

How much does a Manager makes in the Janitorial Service field

As I'm moving to a new role in a small company, I have a doubt about my salary structure like the Basic salary part is only 20,000 while my take home is 62k after all deductions.

I'm concerned because the leave encashment & other things totally depends on the basic salary.

Are there not any rules for the Basic salary to be at a certain % of CTC or it depends totally on the company?

Also PF deductions they are offering only 1800 p.m but considering 20000 basic it should be 12% of 20000 right?

Hey designer fishies! I'm conducting an interview tomorrow for a new Director of Product. This person will be managing our team of Product Managers and Product Designers.

What are some good interview questions for this level and type of role? I have a few in mind, but would love to pick the group's brain as I have never interviewed anyone for a Director role before.

Thanks in advance!!

Im working at a big multi-product company and we're having 5 dedicated product teams, however, teams are working in silos. Each team's has its own process, design system, technology etc. We identified that most of the teams use and need components that were already conceptualised, designed and developed, for our other products, and we are starting to create a global set of components, a global design system that we will use on all our products. What is your approach?

Do you have advice on how to interview better with Amazon?

My résumé and portfolio are great, and I’ve been asked to interview with Amazon for 4 different teams now. However, it seems like I’m not making it past the first 1:1 interview. 3 out of 4 have resulted in not the right fit for reasons unknown; they don’t provide any feedback either. I have been invited for a new interview today with another team, and I am hoping 4th time is the charm. Any tips on how to do better next time?

If you see an open job posting at a company you want to work for, what steps do you take to apply? I’ve been told that cold applying and making no contacts is usually not going to lead to anything, and that’s been true in my experience. But should I reach out to someone first? Should i apply and then email someone? In HR? Or someone who’d be directly supervising me? Or someone at my level? And what should i say? Thanks!

What would you do?
- You have your annual review with your manager
- They promote you up a level, you see your new shiny salary and title
- End meeting
- Get a DM to meet with manager the same week
- Get told that your title was “a mistake” and that you would keep the salary and but not the title. Due to a communication with upper leadership.
- 2 months later your title updates in Messaging channels and with HR with the leveled up title.

What do you do?

I started a full time in-house design job that pays extremely well. I barely have to work at all. This makes me very confused since I kept hearing stories of people working 60+ hr weeks as designers at ad agencies. I am not complaining, but I have this creeping irrational feeling that I’ll get fired for not working even though there’s nothing for me to do. Should i be making up projects or asking for more work? Or just chill out? I just feel very confused. Are a lot of full time jobs like this?
