Spg amex by far, most valuable points currency
SPG earns you 2x SPG points, if/when transferred to Marriott it would net you 6 points per dollar due to the 3:1 transfer. Unless you specifically need point accrual to hit Marriott lifetime, SPG is the better card between the two. Now if you're looking purely at value, look to The Points Guy to compare SPG to CSR.
@K1 read what @A1 said. That's the right answer. I don't think you understand that 1 SPG point is worth exactly 3 Marriott points now. You can easily transfer better them.
Reserve, it's versatile, points won't devalued beyond the 1 to 1 cash rate. If you need referral let me know :)
Are you going to pay using this card or a different card
Pay with the card
Marriot card has a pretty awesome sign up bonus right now. 80k. It's also got a good Multiple on points per dollar on charges from paying your bill.
A2 - OP didn't ask what was the most valuable points. They asked what would be best for Marriott stays. The spg card only gives you 2x points on Marriott purchases while the Marriot visa gives you 5x points on Marriot AND Spg properties.
Yea I read it wrong but all the same, hotel points tend to devalue over time hence I like UR points. But yea then MR card
I'll invite you to either if you post a burner! I'd echo Marriott though - use CSR for flights / Uber / food
Picking up where A3 and others left off...
Getting 2.5cpp from SPG is pretty easy. At 2x earn, that's 5% yield. Getting much more than ~1.6cpp from UR is hard, but YMMV. At 3x earn, that's 4.8% yield.
Pretty close. I'd say it mostly depends on whether having both currencies is valuable to you or which set of transfer partners you like better.
Personally, I have tons of other avenues for airline miles, so the SPG points are a better deal. The upside is much higher too. My last few SPG redemptions have been >4cpp. That said, I'm much more likely to splurge on premium accommodations that flights.
