This is a non-issue when you’re a kid with an iPhone
Why would anyone sign on to SAG these days. Re-use is the biggest rip off of all time
I mean I get it - budgets are so so tight nowadays, and it’s expensive to join SAG from a talent point of view and can limit your opportunities, but it does make me sad. Fair wages and working conditions are important all around.
Um the talent is way better. If your script has talent in it, you are relying on actors to sell your product. Pay them accordingly.
Talent is better with SAG, but you can find wonderful non-union actors looking for their break too. SAG isn't great for working actors because it prices actors out of most digital and social spots that are flooding the market.
Also, Mother and Honest are non-signatory, so it's BS PR for SAG to call them out like that. They're not beholden to the contract. SAG talent should not work with them though, that's true, and they should not represent that they are a SAG production, that's also true, but there is nothing wrong with non-union.
We are non-signatory, work with non-union all the time, and we treat our talent with the same regard as union. We pay higher up fronts for non-union but royalties and licensing are negotiated differently. Ask a working SAG actor what their royalties are like these days and you'll wonder why anyone is SAG anymore at all.
This just seems like the union getting in a Huff that a big name agency and a big client rejected them and is now shooting in their backyard.
Reading this ten minutes after a $90 charge to honest company hit my account for diapers. Bummer.
Is there any proof at all that they’re not being treated fairly? They seem to be going the way of PETA and freaking out over things that just make them look starved for attention
Yeah aside from quality it just seems wrong not to pay actors properly.
Honest diapers suck
SAG is just huffing and puffing. Their pay structure is extremely outdated for the low budgets required for digital/social spots, meaning that it would be foolish for younger agencies to become signatory. As non-signatory you can work through signatory clients or companies like Extreme Reach, and also do your non union social shoots. As a signatory you are locked in forever
Yeah this is SAG bullying. I understand the need for fair wages, but for smaller jobs SAG is way too expensive. They won’t budge on their price structure, so this is just gonna continue.
Sag seems more like the mafia than anything.
The problem is both sag and non union have reasonable needs / pov’s and no one is willing to budge when negotiating.
What if I am, either behind the camera or in front of it, trying to break in and am willing to shoot or be shot on the cheap, hoping I get discovered?
SAG doesn’t support me and non union does.
What happens, after some momentum in my career, I want to be protected and get fair pay for fair work?
SAG supports me here.
Big corporations (mother) and big unions (sag) are only interested in their own version.
I myself could have given hundreds of American actors small job opportunities but had to go out of country when we had small budgets.
With big budgets we went to NY and LA and used SAG Talent.
Perfectly good money left our country because they won’t negotiate a transitional non union path to the union.

👆That’s the worst apology I’ve ever read. Ugh it was SO long, full of innovative buzzwords, and didn’t stop advertising how great the company is, when an apology note should be about the victim.
And who cares? Only a few insiders interested in production happenings know about this story. They wrote it as if it was running in the NYTimes after a plane crash.
BBH seems insufferable. - Especially with its creative output for the last 10 years.
