The easiest trick is to take your face powder or translucent setting powder on a fluffy brush and blend out the edges of any eyeshadow for a seamless finish. Any brush that looks similar to this will achieve a good blend; this is the exact one I use and I have 2 of them I use it so much:

A fluffy brush is the way to go. You’re looking for an ombré effect where you can’t really tell where one color ends and the next starts. Put on eyeshadow and then use a brush like this (without anything on it) to blend using a swirling motion.
Check out this product at Sephora.com - SEPHORA COLLECTION Makeup Match Crease Eyeshadow Brush - Crease https://www.sephora.com/product/makeup-match-crease-brush-P444023?skuId=2497105
Awesome, I'll have to check that one out. I'm hesitant to spend $$ on makeup stuff when I don't know what I'm doing, but since I'm getting some many recs for the fluffy brush, it sounds like a safe bet. ;)
+1 on the fluffy brush! It’s forgiving if you mess up, too!!!
Ok cool!!
ahahah I always felt the same...I found youtube tutorials VERY helpful, especially if you search for specific palettes. When I first bought the NAKED palette (RIP), I used a few tutorials videos and got some great looks :)
I don't really use palettes as such anymore, but there are amazing indie makeup brands that I'm obsessed with!!
This meme just cracked me! Hahaha! I'm laughing because I have zero idea if I'm doing the right thing with the blending. I just blend it for the sake of blending.
Pack on the shadow just below where your eyelid creases and use a fluffy brush and do a windshield wiper motion just on the outer edges of where you packed the shadow on. It's important to note that you should barely see where the shadow starts and ends.
A really helpful tip I learned from a makeup-obsessed friend of mine is to hold the wand farther away from the actual brush bristles just until you're holding it midway down the length of it. Swipe it back and forth over the edges like you're fanning away the excess product so it appears softer.
If you're blending two colors together, pick a shade that's just between the two as a "transitional" shade so it's less harsh and obvious that you're changing colors. Use a light hand on it for blending, and a heavier hand if you're packing the shadow on.
I usually use a smaller brush to apply eyeshadow in sort of batches before blending with a larger, fluffier one. Due to its larger size and the fact that you are applying less pressure, the eyeshadow can now blend between colors rather than smearing all the colors together.
The key to creating the appearance of blending is gradient. Create a pleasing color gradient by using shadows that range in intensity from light to dark. Using a dark brown eyeshadow? To create the appearance of blending, use a lighter shade of brown eyeshadow.
Like everyone else is saying- a nice floofy brush should do the trick. Don’t blend too far into any color, just where they meet so that you don’t see any harsh transitions. If you’re looking for quality budget brushes, Wet n Wild has a line with a white handle and white bristles with pink tips that I love. They start at $0.99 and I often reach for them over other (pricier) brushes. I’ve seen them at the dollar store, Five Below, Ulta, Target….. really everywhere. They’re also a cruelty free brand, if that’s your jam
First of all, this picture had me rolling!! Hahaha. Take what you put normally on your brush and cut that in half. Then maybe cut it in half again. That's how much you should actually be using. I think that tip and making sure I was using good, clean, quality brushes made a huge difference also.
Apply your eyeshadow in sheerer layers and build up coverage as desired. It is always easier to blend out less product than to blend out a giant patch of intense black eyeshadow in the crease!
Gently pull your brush from one color to the next. I like to gently pull my brush and then gently pull it the opposite direction to blend two shades together, but I work precisely where the two meet. I like to gently blend a lighter, shimmery shade over a darker shade as this ensures the lighter shade doesn’t get overwhelmed by something richer.
Use larger, denser, and/or rounder brushes to diffuse colors together when the blending is too harsh and other tools are not working. You’ll want to avoid picking up any additional product and work from a clean (or mostly clean) brush.
Blend with clean brushes. A cleaner brush, whether it’s been wiped gently on a microfiber towel or a Color Switch, reduces the chance of your colors getting muddy when blended.
I pretty much just blend it with any brush I can find. And I just try to make it appear less terrible as possible. I pretty much just go with my guts.
Thank heavens for youtubers who does make-up tutorials! I learned a lot from them over the course of the pandemic. I feel more confident now.
My sister told me to always use the fluffy brush when blending out my eyeshadow; there's no other way. But here's the thing, a lot of my brushes look fluffy.
It really takes a lot of practice. Doing it on the daily helps a lot too. Do you wear eyeshadow everyday? Start with neutral colors for practice.
