Can a newspaper use my photo without my consent?

I'm not a reporter, I'm just a citizen who took a picture during an event and uploaded it to my social media account. Turns out a digital media wrote me to have permission to use my picture, and when I said yes, they said they were looking for some other picture because I had already given permission to the competitors, which I didn't.
They just posted it without asking me, letting me know, or even mentioning my credits. Is this legal?

How much should a TV producer be paid a year? I've been working as a digital producer for 2 years now and I've been traveling for the last 4 years, so I'm not sure what would be a fair payment in the US for a TV producer. Any comment will be extremely helpful.

One of my direct reports has asked about going part time. They currently manage special reports in a bi-weekly publication, working closely with sales, freelance writers, and an internal designer. I'm American, but my family is mostly Colombian. I was told my aunt and cousins would come here for 2 weeks. But of course, it's all fake and payed 😂 turns out she wanted me to go there (even though I don't work for that TV network) so she's sure she'll be paid at the end of the show. Wth did I just do.
