The term "news" is not protected by law, so anyone can call anything they want "news." This means that there is no real standard for what can be called "news," and it can be used to describe anything from a verified fact to an unproven theory or claim.
In your opinion, do you think "news" should be legally protected?
It should not be allowed, that is why there is so much confusion in the world and it is still allowed to create more chaos.
For a long time, the media have not been responsible for the false news they broadcast, I am not pro trump but it is necessary that from time to time these media are sanctioned.
It happens because the media that should take charge of controlling these things are incapable of acting before these media, and it's not just Fox, CNN also does many others as well.
Very few are the bastions that remain serious before the news, I would like someone to help me make a list because many others only live on sensationalism.
I have always felt that the Fox network is a total disaster, that is, you cannot believe anything you see in that medium, it is unfortunate because I know that in the past its line was more serious and had greater criteria.
There are many media, both visual and written, that produce this type of news because the only thing that matters is increasing the community, it doesn't matter if it is a community that is looking for the truth or looking for a conspiracy theory, but that's the way things are now.
There is no specific law that dictates how unproven theories and claims are legally allowed to be called "news." Rather, this is determined by the practices of the news organization in question. Of course Fox News would report misinformation, are you surprised?
Most news organizations have a policy stating that unproven theories and claims cannot be presented as fact. There are outliers, of course, but I reckon most news organizations try to at least fact check what they're reporting on if they're renowned worldwide.
The Society of Professional Journalists' Code of Ethics says that journalists should "seek truth and report it" and that they should "test the accuracy of information from all sources." This means that, if a theory or claim has not been verified, a journalist should disclose that information to the reader.
This is becoming an increasingly problematic issue in the industry. We have seen over the years how much this misinformation has contributed to political decisions and preventable deaths.
