I can tell you that’s definitely NOT the case as a current consultant who has been on domestic and international projects. The budgets are PENNIES. We’re even lucky if we can expense a $30-50 dinner.
So those days of spending the clients money and living it up on FAT SALARIES or EXPENSES are LONG GONE.
Yeah, I agree with C1, there’s barely any budgets for anything; majority of our clients are okay with us delivering virtually.
Because in many cases they're not?
Expense policies / billing clients for stuff like hotel stays / meals often varies by consulting firm, or even clients / types of projects within the same firm.
If you’re paying $100-200k per week/month, you’re not gonna sweat whether someone stayed $450 a night at the Ritz or $300 at the Hilton for a few days anyways
Blackstone (and other companies) don’t give af what hotel we stay at or our first class flight policy - they just care that we deliver what they want. The price they pay is effectively locked in (generally) when they sign SOW
So all the tiktokkers posting about the Ritz are just trolling? Damn, haha
with the hours they expect us to work the least I can do is stay at a ritz or an edition. the 5 star hotel is $400-500 an night while a 4 star one is $300-400, not a huge diff
Granted, I’m fairly new but:
Working on the plane is easier in business class? More time to work = create more value.
Five star hotel is ultimately the same principle, save more time and therefore work more.
The “perk” of the above things also helps draw in competitive talent. If you want to hire the best consultants then you have to attract the best consultants and the best people will want to work in the best possible conditions.
Yeah because the WiFi at a Four Seasons is so much faster than a Marriott
it’s a high margin business
