Changing careers looking for a remote sales job, was told I could get a base and commission, I got the contract and the “base” is $1000 a month after $10,000 in sales, $2000 a month after $30,000 in sales and commission about 2%. This is selling ingredients for cosmetics/wellness products. I’m hoping for something with more reliable income and assumed a base meant pay without making a sale. Any suggestions on how to counter this offer? Could it just not be worth it? Is this normal for sales?

Run! That is NOT an adequate base salary.

Agree, that sounds shady, too.

I mean this kindly.. that is absolutely trash pay. 🗑️

There has to be other sales roles near you which have a better pay and pay structure. The prime with this as well is the amount of volume you would need to even just make a liable wage.

No thank you.

I’ve been working for my State Farm agency as a team member for 2 years. I am licensed in property and casualty as well as life and health, but only make $13 an hour. I technically can make bonuses but I’m not supposed to dig into a sale and I have to send it to a sales rep (I am service and retention mostly). My boss also has me running a retired agents office until a new one is chosen (its an hour away with no pay increase or mileage pay). Also, no benefits! Should I start job searching?

They stated 120k+ is extremely high for that role. What do you guys think? Playing the game?

If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?

They started with it being a 75-80k budgeted position. What are typical base salaries for someone with 4.5 ttl YOE? Does it matter that 3 YOE was in an adjacent industry?
