Looking to finally go get my SPHR having the PHR for the past 6 years. Still value and pursuing and obtaining?

I’ll go against the grain here. Of course experience is ultimately more important. But having a SPHR is still a differentiator, and the later you are in your HR career, the more likely your peers will have the SPHR instead of the PHR, SHRM-SCP instead of the SHRM-CP, etc.

The added value of having the ‘Senior’ in front of the certification is marginal, but the value is still there. Only you can decide whether it’s worth your time and money spent.

I spoke to 2 recruiters who specialize in HR this week and their feedback was that companies value the experience more than the certification. Although it’s good to have, what weighs more is the experience

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

Looking to transition into an HR leadership position. 17+ years experience in running a startup managing 50-100 people (15 years) and handled all facets of hiring, firing, compensation, negotiation, training and employee relations. Responsibilities also include other non HR functions such as business dev., client relations and expansion, logistics. Currently studying for the SPHR and plan to take the GPHR as well. Thoughts on difficulty of moving into an HR leadership role?

Maybe some perspective might be of use to me. I’m transitioning out of the service and I’ve positioned myself decently to be competitive in the market. I’ve got two offers from great companies. I know this is personal and dependent, but what should I be considering as a commensurate salary?

I’m currently working with a senior level HR candidate. SPHR exam- has anyone ever been “randomly selected” for an application audit? This just happened to me and the sheer amount of effort that is going to go into collecting all the documents almost makes me not want to follow through. Since I didn’t finish undergrad, they’re asking for a copy of my high school diploma or transcript and that itself is going to be an absolute nightmare to get hold of. Guess I’m not really looking for a solution here, just venting.

I’m in a rather peculiar situation. I have been in the HR field going on 4 years, I have over 11 years of management experience, I got my PHR last year and I recently graduated with my MBA with a concentration in HR this month. I am ready for a more challenging role. However, there doesn’t seem to be much available at my current company. However, I am going on 5 months pregnant with the expectation of being out in October. I feel like once I mentioned my pregnancy I was in a holding pattern.

What are the most useful online courses in the DevOps space that I could take? They don't necessarily need to be free, but if Pluralsight/Coursera/etc. has a better group of offerings than another, I could budget 1 subscription. Ideally they'd be platform-agnostic, and/or cover multiple toolsets, as I am consultant and my assignments will be largely dependent on what the customer has.

Do we really still support SHRM? I was a fan when I first got in HR now though I’ve had a few second thoughts. I also used to volunteer to review scholarships they provided, but after the last SHRM conference I started asking myself, why pay…. I also keep update myself outside of SHRM as I’ve had multi-site and country responsibility so I’ve had to usually keep uptodate.
