M340i is all-time. The a/s/RS3 is tiny and basically front wheel drive because it has the inferior haldex differential and is not true Quattro. If you were considering an RS5 it would at least be a conversation
I love the looks of the RS5 but M3/340 probably drives better still
I’ve had an S4 and now an RS5 and have had nothing but a great experience. Zero issues. I love how Audi is both performance and luxury focused and it really shines through on the RS. To me BMWs are just more boring/common these days.
Go for the BMW
M performance models aren’t as hardcore as actual M cars. It’s night and day difference imo having owned an M235i, M2 and other M cars. I would go for the actual M model if you can
Are actual M’s less daily-friendly and cost more to maintain? Does it also cost a lot more to insure?
I drove an RS3 from Turo and holy hell was it a fun car. Absolutely useless if you need any sort of space as it’s a really small car with almost no back seat, but it was a lot of fun to cruise around in. I don’t have a better way of describing it but the car was just “angry”, it wanted to keep going.
I don’t think the 3 series from BMW is comparable, you should be looking to compare to the S4 or S5. The RS3 is closer to the 1 or 2 series from BMW.
