Curious - do any of you ever open a nice bottle of wine ($80+) when you are drinking alone? I don’t and I am wanting to change that. My husband is a beer/scotch drinker and will occasionally drink a glass of wine, but it’s not his beverage of choice.

Yes all the time. Every time my wife goes to a girls trip/night out, I stop at our local wine store and pick up something expensive that I’ve been wanting to try

Why not buy a Coravin? You can have a glass and not worry about the bottle going bad

I was going to ask the group something similar.

I have a coravan and still cant bring myself to open my $100+ bottles of wine on a weeknight or weekend without some sort of 'special occasion'

Any advice for how to transport wine during a move (1,000 miles driving)? There’s only about 15 bottles i actually care about from my collection - I’ll probably end up just drinking the other 30 by the time we move.

Costco has a 2005 chateau montelana cab for $170. This is a bit more than I usually spend for a special occasion wine but I’ve had more recent vintages and love the producer. Is this too good to be true or should I pull the trigger next time I’m at Costco

Ribeiro: LOVE this wine region from the Galicia region of Spain but it’s hard to find anything coming out of this place. Not to be confused with Ribera del Duero, known for Vega Sicilia, lot of white wine cones from this region. The Treixadura grape is prominent, and it has granite soils and a rich bubblegum like flavor. Lovely minerality and acidity.

Tried this Santorini retailing for $40. Very concentrated but can’t say I was blown away by it. Volcanic terroir dominates almost to the point of obscurity, and it had strong lemon notes, hints of quince, and sea salt. It clashed with Mexican food (hey I knew that beforehand but didn’t think it would clash THAT bad, and usually pair Mexican with Riesling or Gewürztraminer) but I’m going to Greece soon and wanted to drink Greek wine. I drank half at a BYOB, took the bottle home(cont’d)
