Day at a time. You accept your new norm is going to be different and make each day positive. Worst situ is you realize it doesn’t work and you look for a new role or go back to the old one if that’s an option.
Don’t stress yet, it won’t change the outcome and will only make you miserable (said by a person who can’t seem to practice what I preach 😊)
Sending you lots of love and luck. You’ll make it work... moms always do
Depends on the age of the child and whether it is your 1st, 2nd or 3rd child. With my first kid I needed the 2 WFH days to feel ‘part of their week’...and for hug breaks. When I moved on to having #2 (and a nanny for both) - WFH was/is disruptive to all of us - so that ‘season’ of needing WFH might phase out.
The kicker is that if you come home at 6-6:30pm...you will likely miss much of your evening time by auto piloting into dinner/bath/night time snuggles. My kids eat at 7 and start the night time process at 8-8:15....the 1.5 hour that I have with them before dinner is huge fun/reading/share time. That would be a tough trade for me.
(Cont) I’m nervous to get EVEN LESS TIME with my husband and child. And stressed to commute every day, which I haven’t in 1-2yrs... It’s going to be okay, right? 😔 I’ll power through and overall the rest of the job will be better!
Yeah, I don't know that I could make that trade. Do you think they would be able to match flexibility in other ways?
At this point no... But it looks like those who have been there a bit longer have wfh flex so guessing they just didn’t want to offer it upfront
Can you work it out so that your child has been fed and ready for bed when you get home? I find it so much less stressful if I get home after they’ve been fed. (But I also have a picky eater and have to sit there and say “take a bite” every 2 minutes.)
Totally agree with that, I leave when my work is done and aim to catch an earlier commute home. Sadly, with my long commute, my child is usually already in bed by the time I get home 😔 that 1 train time makes a difference, which is hard too
Can you find out if ending at 6/630 means physically in the office? I commute to CT and work from the train. By the time I get home it’s 6/630 and I haven’t missed a beat (except for the 10 mins it takes me to walk to the train). I asked my boss if we could test it out for a couple of weeks before he gave the go ahead.
Thanks!
