You can go in house now you don’t need to wait. Going from an associate to a staff attorney diminishes your marketability for future roles. Definitely understand needing the break but keep in mind exit opportunities from whichever role you choose. In house is perfect for you at your level of experience and will give you much more WLB without diminishing your marketability. Just my 2 cents.
I don’t think it would help more than your current role, likely less.
Ex LW associate here. The staff attorneys primarily help with due diligence and other tasks that first years would normally do (negotiating NDAs, etc.) but have been given to the practice services team for either time constraints or budget constraints as they bill at lower rates. I would not suggest that role if you have other options as an associate or in house, as I think it’d be career limiting to some extent.
I would not do staff attorney anywhere, if possible, unless you just want to.
Mid-level is where most burn out and leave. It’s okay. But things do get better. Try to position yourself at a client where you can exit back to big law if possible.
